WOMEN IN RAP/HIP-HOP
I love rap a lot, maybe not so much lately as I have been on a music fast but if you asked about genres of music I love, Rap would most certainly take a high position. It carries this place in my heart, because it is much like poetry and I write poetry, so it evokes a deeper appreciation. Infact, RAP has been defined loosely as Rhythm and Poetry. I mean, why else would you catch your fave artiste trying to "drop some rhymes" or "rhyme on the beat". Yeah, that's how fluid and entertaining it is. And my favorite rapper of all time is a rhyming lady, yes you guessed it, Nicki Minaj, (sorry Eminem, you still hold a special place in my heart😎😎). So you can now understand why my heading is focused on Women in the genre. I always wondered why we relegate rap to just men. Rap and Hip-hop are an open field to anyone who is skilled enough to come in the game and create their own lane. And no, this is not a feminist post so don't come for me. But it seems women are relegated to "female rap", like there should be something fascinating about that. Rap is Rap, and if you rap, you are a rapper. The addendum seems pointless as y'all are doing the same thing. And this continues to be reflected in rap conversations. The women are put on their own and so are the men. But some of these females would wash your favorites(just saying) and I see some mediocre male rappers being thrown into the spotlight, while good females are not pushed. And the bar for entry is quite thin, as more leeway is given to any penis individual. Maybe more women should get authority positions and help level the playing field You don't see males in makeup being called "men in makeup" or "male makeup artistes", except a description is being made. I mean, if you are good, you are good, that's not debatable I just think we should get rid of the addendums and talk about rappers as what they are;rappers I write this as I think about how Nicki washed every rapper on Monster πŸ’€
