WHY ROUTINES FAIL IN NIGERIA (and What You Should Do Instead).

A casual chat with my friend Tenotea after he posted a picture of himself the other day unexpectedly turned into a Mini Masterclass on routines, struggles, and– well, living in Nigeria. Here's how it went:

Me: Mann... Your arms though... 🫠

You've been pumping metals too? 🌚

Tenotea: I was. 😹😹

Me: Those guns look too good to be a result of ordinary growth. 😂

Tenotea: Well... I actually started going to the gym after that shoot. 🌚

Me: Madt...!!!! Why you con stop?! 😂🤷🏼♂️😂

Tenotea: I couldn't adjust my routines to fit. I got tired every time I came back from the gym only to sleep again and waste the morning. It felt too wasteful over time. 😹

At this point, I had to ask a question that’s been bugging me for a while.

Me: Talking about routines... HOW DO YOU BUILD ONE AND STAY TRUE TO IT?! I don tire. 🤧

Tenotea: I learnt the hard way that routines don’t last. I stayed true to mine because I had light in the morning: wake up, wash my face, gear up, go for a run, come home, take a shower, and make a nice egg toast for breakfast... UNTIL NEPA didn’t bring light! Or the one where I’d cook on weekends and stock up my fridge so I could take my meals out plate by plate... UNTIL National Grid spoils. 😹

His laughter said it all. In Nigeria, consistency isn't always in your control.

Tenotea: Rather than having a routine, have a list. And by all means, tick everything off that list. 🫶🏼

And there it was... The wisdom bomb I didn’t know I needed.

THE TAKEAWAY.

Nigeria isn't always a country that supports routines. Power outages, unpredictable schedules, and limited resources can mess with even the best-laid plans.

Instead of rigidly sticking to routines, try this:

* Make a daily task list of what you need to get done.

* Focus on ticking off those tasks as time and resources permit.

* Be flexible. i.e Adapt when things don’t go as planned.

At the end of the day, it’s not about following routines— IT’S ABOUT GETTING THINGS DONE, NO MATTER THE CHAOS AROUND YOU.

So, whether you’re hitting the gym, working on personal goals, or just trying to navigate daily life, remember: "A list might just be your best friend".

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to 7 people with the best insights in the past month. The 7 winners are picked
by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Top Engagers
For the Top Engagers Track, we award the top 3 people who engage the most with other user's content via
comments.
The winners are picked using the "Monthly Engagers" tab on the rankings page.
Most Engaged Content
The Most Engaged Content recognizes users whose content received the most engagement during the month.
We pick the top 3.
The winners are picked using the "Monthly Contributors" tab on the rankings page.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
