Last time, we discussed the role and stakes of journalism in our everyday life. This time, we will learn about the person who does the job. A news reporter, also known as a journalist, is someone who is responsible for researching, gathering, and presenting news stories to the public. Their role is to inform the public about current events, issues, and developments in a fair and accurate manner. A news reporter must have undergone proper training in order to master the canons of his profession.
A news reporter should be bold in every situation, curious, flexible, can easily adapt to circumstances, and should remain unbiased or indifferent. This is because they are there to bring out information to the public, they are not to take sides.
A news reporter's duties typically include:
- Researching and analyzing news topics: Reporters need to have a strong understanding of the subject matter they are covering, as well as the context in which it is happening.
- Conducting interviews: Reporters often interview people who are directly or indirectly involved in the news story to gather information and perspectives.
- Writing and editing: Reporters are responsible for crafting engaging, accurate, and well-structured stories that convey the necessary information to the audience.
- Fact-checking: To ensure the accuracy of their stories.
When faced with unforeseen circumstances, the news reporter has to show proof of extreme dexterity and ensure that all their senses are alert in order to accurately collect information for broadcasting. We take the case of an accident. It is an unplanned event. A news reporter may, on their way to work, stumble on the accident. Their first reaction should be to go to the scene of the accident and gather information, so as to adequately report it during news hours. In all, news reporters are there to inform, educate and entertain the masses. They are also known as the watchdogs of th e society.
Do you have any favourite news reporter and why do you like them? Please share your thoughts in the comment section.

I will greatly appreciate anything you wish to tip me, for I know how we all face the daily struggles of getting our daily bread.
At the end of each month, we give out cash prizes to 5 people with the best insights in the past month
as well as coupon points to 15 people who didn't make the top 5, but shared high-quality content.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
