What does the football club you support say about your personality
Listen to this Insight
It's weird how fans of football in Nigeria can all identify a Chelsea fan. They are known to be loud and abrasive, to the point that they have been nicknamed 'agbero fc'. The weird thing is that; in a way a lot of Chelsea fans fit the bill. As humans, we are mostly drawn towards familiarity. Meaning that it is whatever resonates with you, that you would mostly be drawn to. The interesting thing about this, is that it is more subconscious than it is conscious. How true is it that the football club you support, has something to do with your personality? Football lovers are attracted to different clubs for a number of reasons. You may be attracted to a club, because the philosophy of that club aligns with your personal philosophy. Their rich history and laurels. Or you could be a glory hunter who jumps from club to club. I am not a psychological expert, but from my observations, I've noticed certain personality traits peculiar amongst fans of certain clubs. Fans of FC Barcelona, seem to be generally known as arrogant, and 'know it alls'. They often like to feel superior to everyone else, rubbing their achievements and laurels in your face. Convincing these people on anything else contrary to what they think can be a difficult task. Arsenal has the most patient fans. These people are loyal and supportive, without expecting much in return. They hold on to the good days and remember them with glee and nostalgia. They are also arguably the most mature in a group. Easy going and classy. Fans of Manchester united are in love with glory. They are used to winning, and accepting loss can be hard for them. They can also be known to seek favors more than usual. You're likely a lover of luxury if you are a fan of Real Madrid. These guys love the good things of life, and may even look to flaunt wealth. They believe that they should have whatever they want, and hardly take no as an answer. They may also exude a bit of arrogance and cockiness. Liverpool fans are historians and loyalists. Just like their club, much of what they use as bragging rights, happened a long time ago. But they don't let you hear the last of it. And as for fans of Manchester City, these ones are fair weather friends. The glory hunters, who move on easily at the mere existence of a problem. Do not expect these people to be loyal. Only expect them by your side when the going is good. Ofcourse like everything else, there are exceptions. So this is not law, it is merely my personal observation.
