Vegan tales

I became vegan around October 2023 as part of my journey towards building a healthy sustainable eating habit. I started being sensitive about what I eat and how I eat, and I’ve tried numerous regimes keto, Intermittent fasting, name them! And the most recent one being vegan/vegetarian, I started off as vegetarian, then vegan, and somehow oscillated between the two. There are many reasons people become vegan, for some it is to prevent animal cruelty and exploitation, for some, ethical reasons, and some religious reasons. I get several questions from people as to why I stopped eating meat, some get so defensive and fight me or try to prove why vegetarianism is propaganda, unsustainable, etc, while others are genuinely curious. This topic is so multifaceted, so I’ll be sure to write another piece expounding more on this. Well, the main reason I decided to eat plant-based food is for health reasons, to reduce weight, and to reduce the risks of diabetes, hypertension, and even some cancers. Also, vegetarianism is more sustainable and after doing a couple of research on the chain food takes before it gets to the shelves, the industrialization of livestock and poultry farming, meat can contain toxins, and high levels of unsaturated fat, and even some are carcinogenic. Plant-based eating is also not without its shortcomings, but I try and eat whole unprocessed food as much as I can and buy bio products. For example, this is what I ate for lunch, Buddha Bowl (quinoa, soja, avocado, cherry tomatoes, green beans). 4 months in, I have learned, unlearned, and re-learned so many things, more on this in my next insight!
