THE MYTH OF TOE RINGS
Toe rings are making a come back. They disappeared off the scene for a while after spending the 90s adorning celebrities toes. Though they might seem like a novel, Western jewelry phenomenon toe rings actually date back to 4th century India. Toe rings today are still a traditional, decorative accessory worn by Hindi women to denote marital status. Like other symbolic jewelry with ancient origins, the toe rings of the Indian subcontinent are also worn as charms to ward off evil. To rings were introduced to the United States by Marjorie Borell who, after returning from India began manufacturing and selling them in New York in 1973. A toe ring is a ring made out of metals and nonmetals worn on any of the toes. Though the second toe of either foot is where they are worn most commonly. In most Western countries they are a relatively new fashion accessory and typically have a symbolic meaning. Like finger rings, toe rings come in many shapes and forms, from intricately designed flowers embedded with jewelry to simple bands. There are fitted rings which are of one size and adjustable toe rings which have gaps at the bottom so they can be easily made to fit snugly. Around the word, toe rings are worn by women and men alike. There is no particular significance of wearing them , but more of fashion jewelry statement. There are mind boggling benefits of wearing toe rings you may never imagine, both scientific and Ayurvedic health benefits. Acupressure - as per Ayurveda, wearing a toe ring is connected to acupressure. The point of wearing it is that clears blockages from the wearer's acupressure point. It is said to treat gynecological issues by massaging the second toe were we wear the toe ring. The jewelry piece hits the specific nerve which are said to help in keeping the representative system in check. It is also great for regulating the menstrual cycle. There is a nerve that goes from the second finger to the toe which is said to pass through the heart and connects to our uterus. Calming and blood pressure - in astrology, the silver metal of the toe ring is said to be retaining the effects the moon can have on the body. The moon calms the mind and heart and as the belief goes, you operate better when you are calm and cool headed. If you feel calm you also keep your blood pressure in check. It is also believed that a child born in the practice of wearing toe ring will be conceived from love. Generally, a silver toe ring is recommended as it is said to absorb energy which is produced from the earth as well as he body and helps in unifying the systems in our body. On the other hand, gold toe rings are a symbol of the goddess Laxmi who is the goddess of wealth, and so not advised to be worn.
