The Irony of Independence: "I want to Japa"✈️$✓🗽
<p><span style="background-color: transparent;">So.....still in the independence week 🤭. Earlier today, I realized something revolving around this same independence that really got me thinking and left me sad, and in a sort of a twist, it had to do with this brain drain issue AKA Japa Syndrome.</span></p><p>True, Nigeria's independence from colonial rule was a hard-won victory, but a stark reality has emerged. The country's brightest minds are massively fleeing, seeking opportunities abroad. Ironically, they're desperate to serve the same nations that once held Nigeria under colonial rule.</p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/InShot_20251004_164912175.jpg"/></p><p>This trend raises fundamental questions: Have we truly broken free from colonialism, or have we traded one form of servitude for another?</p><p>The brain drain phenomenon is a reminder that true independence extends beyond political freedom. It demands economic empowerment, social justice, and a collective sense of purpose.</p><p>Nigeria must confront the uncomfortable truths underlying this trend and create a society that values and retain its human resources rather than mono economise natural resources.</p><p>What are your thoughts?</p>
