THE FEAR OF MOTHERHOOD (Final Saga) A

“Why are you so pained?” Naomi tilted her head, studying her. “My mom taught me how to detect emotions and frustration in people. I can see some in you. What are you angry about?”

Luna exhaled, trying not to laugh. “I’m not angry. Just follow the rules, that’s all.” While Luna spoke, Naomi stepped closer and wrapped her arms around her. “Aunty, I love you,” she said softly. ''During your stay in this house, you must obey the rules.” Naomi smiled. “Run the rules, I’ll chest every single one.” Luna squinted. “Chest them? For what?” “To land in your good books, obviously.” Naomi threw a tiny hair-flip

''My house is sparkling clean, no littering of dirt around, no poking nose, and play in your room, do not touch my walls, I hate to see stains on them. Is that understood ?'' Luna responded ''Yes! madam''

Luna was busy cooking while Naomi stayed right beside her, handing spices and stirring like a pro. They were laughing so much that Luna forgot one key thing: salt. The food was already about 85% done, Luna suddenly froze, dropped the spoon, and shouted, “Jeeeesus!!! My food salt''

Naomi waved her hands like a traffic warden. “Chill, chill, chill, Aunty. I got you on that already.'' Luna blinked. “Wait… you mean you already added it? ”Naomi gave a proud little nod. “Hmm-mm, handled.” “Come here, my girl!” Luna burst out, pulling her into a hug. “You’re a lifesaver!” Naomi grinned into the hug. “Anything for my Oga wife.”

Luna was busy on her laptop when Naomi suddenly asked, “Aunty, why do some girls wear clothes that show their breasts and tight trousers that show their backside?” Luna froze, eyes wide, then quickly glanced down at herself. “Wait, where did you even see that?” she asked. '' I saw it when I went to Granny’s place in Nigeria. At the supermarket, even inside the car,” Naomi said innocently. Luna sighed. “Well, baby, it’s because wisdom isn’t guiding them. They grow in age, but their intelligence doesn’t grow with them.”

Naomi tilted her head. “Tell me more, aunty... “Ohhh okay, my babyyy, that’s enough,” Luna cut in with a teasing smile. “Let me focus before I lose my train of thought.” Naomi copied her in a dramatic voice, “Ohhh okay, my babyyy, that’s enough, let me what again?” They both burst into laughter...

Naomi tiptoed into Luna’s room and tapped her gently. Luna blinked awake to see Naomi standing there. “Good morning, Aunty. Are you okay today ?'' she asked innocently. ''Of course, babby,'' Luna said with a sleepy smile. Naomi moved aside, and that is when Luna's eye landed on the clock. ''Ahhhhhhhhhhh! You’re a lifesaver!” she shouted, springing up and hugging Naomi tight. Naomi giggled as Luna squeezed her. And in her head, Naomi was like "Dorrrrrrrrrr, anything for the poor".

It's Friday Evening, Luna leaned against the car with Naomi, sunglasses on, even though the sun was already melting into gold. ''Alright, superstar,” she said, giving Naomi a mock bow. “Since you’ve got just one more day with me, tonight we go big.'' Naomi’s eyes lit up. “Big-big or just normal Aunty-big?”

“Luxury-big,” Luna smirked. “City lights, sweet treats, endless pictures. Get ready to blow the internet.''

Naomi twirled in her cute dress. “Say less! But no changing outfits, okay? This dress is giving main-character energy.'' Luna laughed, adjusting Naomi’s collar. “One dress, one vibe. Let’s own the night.”

They cruised through the city, fancy spots, sparkling rooftops, glowing bridges everywhere they stopped, Luna whipped out her phone, snapping Naomi in mid-spin, mid-laugh, mid-silly-face. ''Freeze! Hold that pose,” Luna shouted, crouching for the perfect angle. Naomi stuck out her tongue.

“If these pictures don’t break the group chat, you owe me bubble tea.” Said Naomi

“Deal,” Luna grinned. Click-click-click. They grabbed fancy snacks, shared glittery mocktails, and fought over who took the better selfies.

By the time they headed home, Naomi’s cheeks hurt from smiling. “That,” Naomi said, sinking into her seat, “was rich-aunty behavior. I approve.'' Luna winked. “And tomorrow, princess, we do it all over again, just without the goodbye part.”

Luna called one of her staff while Naomi played a few feet away. “Please, I need a gift for a very smart little girl,” Luna said. Her staff blinked. “Ma… you say wetin? “You heard me,” Luna replied with a small smile. “Yes, ma. I have a little girl like that I want to appreciate.”

“Ohhh, okay ma,” the staff said, catching on. “I know some good vendors,” she replied. “Perfect. Send their handles to me on Instagram,” Luna instructed...

Rowan came to pick up his daughter, and Luna walked Naomi down to the sitting room with her luggage and an extra bag filled with gifts. “Wow, my girl is looking amazing,” Rowan said, eyes lighting up.

Naomi grinned and hugged her dad. “Daddy, have you ever gone on a luxury sightseeing before?” Before Rowan could answer, Asher jumped in with a playful smirk. “ Eh! For where? Your father and I were bush local mixed breeds, no way. He hasn’t.'' Everyone burst into laughter.

Naomi suddenly turned back and rushed into Luna’s arms. “I’m going to miss you, Aunty. “I’m going to miss you too,” Luna said softly, fighting to hold back tears. “When you miss me, tell your daddy to give you the phone so we can talk, okay? “Oh, okay,” Naomi nodded.

“Let’s go,” Rowan said gently. Luna’s voice wavered. “You’re going to make me cry.” She hugged Naomi tightly, not wanting to let go.

Asher's voice cracked, trembling against the heavy silence. “I… I can’t believe this is happening.” Luna’s eyes stayed fixed on the doorway, as if willing it to open. “She’s gone,” she whispered, each word breaking apart. “And now… It’s just so painfully quiet.”..

Luna strolled in from the backyard and froze for half a second. Two guys were standing there, identical from head to toe. She caught herself quickly, keeping her steeze and composure. “Welcome, babes,” Asher said, planting a quick peck on her cheek. Her eyes darted between the strangers. “Okay… who are these people?

“This is Pavel, and this is Theodoros,” Asher explained. “They’re our cleaners’ sons. I told her to bring them over.” Luna frowned slightly. “But I thought we were already done with this whole thing?” Asher grinned. “Come on, it’s still part of the plan. You need a different experience.” He reached for her hand. “Let’s go, babe.”

On a bright sunny afternoon, Pavel and Theodoros were out on the lawn kicking a football back and forth. The hard pass went wild-bang!-straight into Luna’s neighbor. Startled, the boys froze for half a second, then bolted inside, racing up the stairs.

“Hey! Come back here, where are you running to?” Asher’s voice cut through the air. Before anyone could answer, a sharp, angry shout erupted outside. “Where are the unfortunate parents who gave birth to these mad children?!” the neighbor screamed.

Luna rushed out, heart thumping. “Calm down, ma’am. What happened?” The woman pointed furiously at her leg. “They hit me with that ball, this leg I just had surgery on! The pain is serious, yeeeeeeeeeeh!'' Pavel and Theodoros peeked from behind the door, eyes wide. “We’re so sorry,” Luna said quickly. “It was an accident. “So sorry, won’t fix this leg!” the neighbor snapped. “No, give me money so I can treat it!”...

They brought the ball into the living room and started kicking it around. Just then, it flew straight at the exact spot where, weeks before, Thomas had already cracked the flat-screen. This time, Pavel hit it so hard that the ball stuck against the glass. The boys froze. 'BOOOOOOOOOOOOM'

Luna and Asher came running. Asher flared up immediately. “What kind of ill-mannered children are you? What sort of running is this? The ball’s hanging on my TV intact! I’ll call your parents now; you must leave this house this instant.”

Luna stepped between him and the boys, laying a calming hand on his arm. “Babe, please leave them. I’ll get another one. Don’t be harsh.” Asher, sensing the mess and feeding off his own temper, shot back, “No, Luna. Don’t beg me. We’ve had enough of this. They have to go.”

Luna went down to her knees in front of the boys, voice soft but firm. “You two kneel and apologize. Show some respect.” Asher reached down and gently helped her to her feet. He turned to the boys, composed but unyielding. “Go inside'' said Luna. The boys shuffled away, looking small and ashamed as the door closed behind them.
