The cost of becoming
<p>I used to think growth was a garden filled with soft petals and the scent of rain.</p><p><br/></p><p>I thought to become more was a simple addition or a slow lean toward the morning sun.</p><p><br/></p><p>But growth does not feel like a blooming; it feels like a violent and necessary breaking.</p><p><br/></p><p>It is the sound of your own skin tearing because you have become too large for the life you built.</p><p><br/></p><p>It is the lonely walk out of rooms where you used to fit perfectly but can no longer breathe.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nobody tells you that to grow is to grieve the person who was brave enough to survive the winter.</p><p><br/></p><p>I spent years trying to stay small so I wouldn't lose the people who loved my silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>I thought loyalty meant staying planted in the same dirt even after the nutrients were gone.</p><p><br/></p><p>But living things die in pots that do not stretch to accommodate the reach of their roots.</p><p><br/></p><p>I used to think losing people meant I was failing at the art of keeping a life together.</p><p><br/></p><p>Now I know it means I am moving toward a space that is wide enough to hold my spirit.</p><p><br/></p><p>It is not a tragedy to leave behind those who only loved the version of you that didn't grow.</p><p><br/></p><p>Growth is not the flower itself; it is the brutal shedding of the seed that used to be home.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sometimes the most exquisite thing you can do is let yourself fall completely apart.</p><p><br/></p><p>You must be willing to be dismantled so you can be put back together by your own wild hands.</p>
