Who or what is God to you?
Atheists love to disprove the existence of God. They are on social media platforms every other day engaging in arguments about it. But further observance, reveal that they only disprove the idea of God peculiar to religion. What I have come to discover is that people have different ideas of God. While some are religious, others are not.
Clinical psychologist and author Jordan Peterson puts the concept of God as your 'highest ideal'. That is something that you place above every other thing - which may even include yourself. When you have something that is your highest ideal, whatever you do is tailored towards such. For Christians, it is the heavenly father and creator of the earth. Christians live their lives in accordance to his word and principles. For others like atheists, it may be a form of art, a person or even an ideology.
If a person or thing becomes your highest ideal, it becomes god to you. You act and live in order to fit its goal. And when you think about it, man has always had the need, and has always created his concept of God. After all, before Christianity, Africans already had several gods and deities they worshipped.
Man naturally seeks out a god. Even atheists do, if they are ever humble enough to admit it. And while a lot are quick to champion the alternate belief in science; even that is a form of god. I think the problem with atheists, is that they try to over rationalize the concept of God. They are quick to disregard the beliefs of others, once they cannot successfully make logic of it. They think the concept of God is unreal, even when their actions are proof of its existence.
Everyone has what he/she believes in. And that is God or god to them.
