SURVIVAL

The timeline was duly anticipated while we were kids only to be caught off guard in a rush, from teenagers to adults with no prior warnings of the dangers ahead.

Plunged into what was once an imagination, so many struggle to define their lives and purpose for living, the unannounced stage of adulthood demanding more than you are prepared to give on a 360-degree scale. All were not given similar platforms but were expected to succeed regardless, with society mounting its pressure on the shoulders of young ones who seem to have misstepped into a stage they only imagined was in the future, now present.

Most seemingly confusion sets in, the economy is getting worser and worser but the bar remains remarkably high for what is expected of you, this is the cause of so much depression, and deaths today, young people having high blood pressure, a health state usually associated with aged people now a young man's ally.

I can’t fail they say,

What do I tell my parents they say,

With faces buried in shame most forfeit the race, while others once seen as big dreamer relinquish their dreams to be bench warmers entering into the mode of survival, I just need to survive nothing more they say, slowly becoming a shadow of themselves their dreams lost in the shadows, without adventure they strolled the corridors of this world till they say goodbye in regrets of a life lived only surviving but not living.

Looks like time has been spun backward, surviving the day without playing the long card of a vision or a dream is now the only logical way forward, reputation is no longer a thing as far as you survive the day, say na hunger go kill patient dog, well here’s the reality of the society we were presented with.

But amidst the craziness, a blue-gentle flame of hope emerges as creativity to uplift the human soul. "Catch cruise", (don’t take life so seriously it means) you’d hear this normally if you were a Nigerian, as irrational as it may sound it became the antidote to this shallow existence, slowly killing the instinct to survive and once again the dreamer is alive and breathing.

How long can this antidote last?

Is there more to this story than meets the eye?

Please tell me.
