PARACETAMOL vs IBUPROFEN — Which Painkiller Should You Really Take
<p>Everyone has taken a painkiller at some point. But have you ever wondered that between <strong>Paracetamol</strong> and <strong>Ibuprofen</strong>, which one is actually better for pain?</p><p>Let’s find out. Although they are both painkillers, but they don’t work the same way inside your body. </p><p><strong>Paracetamol</strong>, which is also known as <em>Acetaminophen</em>, is responsible for <em>analgesic</em> and <em>antipyretic</em> effects. <strong>Ibuprofen</strong> on the other hand, is responsible for <em>anti-inflammatory</em> effects. </p><p><strong>Paracetamol</strong> is used for headache, fever, mild pain. <strong>Ibuprofen</strong> is used for muscle ache, joint pain, or swelling after an injury. </p><p><strong>Paracetamol</strong> blocks chemical signals that makes you feel pain or fever. <strong>Ibuprofen</strong> blocks cooxygenase enzymes which produce prostaglandins that cause you inflammation, fever, and pain.</p><p><strong>Paracetamol</strong> should be used when you want to relieve pain or reduce fever. <strong>Ibuprofen</strong> should be used when inflammation is involved. </p><p><strong>Paracetamol</strong> in high doses is toxic to both liver and kidney. <strong>Ibuprofen</strong> when used carelessly can irritate stomach, cause ulcer, and affect the kidney.</p><p><strong>Paracetamol</strong> can be dangerous for people with liver problem, high alcohol consumption, or malnutrition. <strong>Ibuprofen</strong> is not a good idea for people with ulcer, kidney issues, or heart disease. </p><p>Both drugs are sometimes recommended together, but it must be timed and dosed carefully. Never combine them without proper advice.</p><p>Always avoid self-medication, follow dosage instructions, and never mix blindly.
