Yoruba Culture has always been deeper than selective storytelling. It stands as a voice, a front for unity and a symbol of hope. I’m from the Yoruba Clan, which stands taller than all other Ethnic groups altogether. Yoruba is bold, beautiful, and it entails meaning. For every Yoruba question?, there’s an answer; YORUBA IS BEAUTIFUL Q: “Báwo ni oo?” Which means How are you doing? A: “Mo wà dáa dáa, Eşé oo”.. basically just means with “I’m doing well, thank you!” YORUBA IS BOLD “Omo gidi kan kò gbodò rìn'de òru, kòsì tún gbodò máa rìn ní sàwáwù àwon omo òkùnkùn.” A good child mustn’t wander late at night, and also mustn’t join bad gang. YORUBA ENTAILS MEANING Let’s talk about proverbs, let’s talk about Òwe lẹṣin ọ̀rọ̀, ọ̀rọ̀ lẹsin òwe" “Bámi na omo mi kòdé inú olómo”, “Bí omodé bá ni aşo bí àgbà, kòlè ní àkísà tó àgbà”. “Bámi na omo mi kòdé inú olómo”, This means parents are only pretentious when they tell outsiders to feel free to discipline their child, they’re not okay about it. “Bí omodé bá ni aşo bí àgbà, kòlè ní àkísà tó àgbà”. It means a Youth may have clothes like the elders, but cannot have old rags like the elders. Yoruba is beautiful and we cannot overemphasize its meaning. Like I said up there, just a few lines back, I’m from Òsì, Ota. Ògùn State. I’m a proud Aworian.. We have a slang, it goes like this. “Kítigbe oo?” Meaning What does it bring? “Ógbé ire oo” meaning it brings goodness “Amá gbé ire wa fún wa ni oo” It will always bring goodness for us.. And we’ll all just say a Loud Amen. That’s our own Identity, just as other ethnic groups has the code that guides them. Omo Àwórì ni mí, Omo bíbí ilè Nàìjíríà ni mí Omo bíbí ilè Ògùn ni mí. I’m a Àwórì descendant, I’m a Nigerian, I’m proud to be from Ogun State. These are not just words, they’re statements from a true child of the land. My mother’s language, So true, bold and encouraging, A word that doesn’t need gauge, Ever so harsh, yet appealing. Omo Ògùn ni mí (I’m from Ogun State) Ògùn ni wón fi orí mi solè sí, ( Born in Ògùn) Omo Ogunn ni mí, ( I’m a child of war) Ogún ( Will) Ògún (God of Iron) Oògùn (Medicine) Ogun( War) Àti béèbéè lo, (So on and so forth) Báyìí la parí eléyìí sí, bí ńkan míràn bá tún wà, a máa jé ke gbó.
