My Food and I
<p>I used to wonder why it seemed like our ancestors lived longer than many do today.&nbsp;</p><p>We have folks dying at the ages of 60 years to 80 years. Back then, folks lives up to their Mid-100's easily. Going back further, people lived even longer.</p><p>Interestingly, I actually do not have all the answers yet. But I am sure of one thing....</p><p>It is that, a major contribution to the quality of life lived is in what we eat!</p><p>In&nbsp;<span style="background-color: transparent;">the modern kitchen, convenience often trumps tradition, with many opting for factory-processed spices like bouillon cubes or powders. These pre-packaged seasonings promise quick flavor enhancement, but the long-term impact on both health and taste cannot be ignored.&nbsp;</span></p><p>One of the main reasons people favor processed spices is convenience. Bouillon cubes and powdered seasoning mixes are easy to store, inexpensive, and quick to use, making them an attractive option for busy individuals. Moreover, they’re often marketed as providing a consistent, familiar taste that requires no effort. For many, sourcing natural spices like thyme, garlic, or cumin feels time-consuming or complicated. The perceived hassle of measuring and blending spices can make pre-seasoned products an appealing shortcut.</p><p><br></p><p>However, the convenience comes with a hidden cost. Many factory-processed spices are high in salt, artificial additives, and preservatives, which can be detrimental to health when consumed regularly. Excessive salt intake, for example, is linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, and kidney problems. Long-term reliance on such products could lead to significant health risks, especially when paired with an overall diet high in processed foods.</p><p>In contrast, natural spices offer not only better flavor but also a wealth of health benefits. Fresh or dried herbs like basil, oregano, and turmeric are packed with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and vitamins. They also provide a wider range of complex flavors, allowing for more creativity and better-tasting meals.</p><p>Ultimately, while it may seem easier to rely on bouillon cubes or seasoning powders, choosing natural spices is a healthier, more flavorful alternative that can significantly elevate the quality of your meals—both in taste and nutrition.</p><p>However, this is still my opinion.
