I wouldn't say I've been humbled or ashamed for the past 24 hours. Because God forbid that I ever feel bad for standing up for an acclaimed victim of rape irrespective of gender.

I have ranted on my watsapp status. I have expressed rage to the friends around me that cared to hear. I have reposted videos supporting Mirabel and seeking justice on her behalf. I have reposted the videos of people that choose to call "All men" wicked. I asked myself "where is Miraji now"?, oh she's all gone out of the blue's suddenly, but came online to tag feminist as being angry -and feminism loosening it's root and purpose. {Even though I still don't consent to her perspective}.

At a point I said to myself - being a feminist is not enough, maybe a misandrist soon. My idea of why we currently have women tagged as wicked/angry feminist on the Internet was checked. I mean examining Mirabel's story.

There was no form of doubt in me at first, second, third watch of that video -as others currently claim that they had presumed from the unset that it was a lie, or rather wasn't adding up.

Because when we begin to discredit the rape cases of women at first hearing- we would create a society and a wall against victims speaking up. And the perpetrators of these crimes will increase.

The past few hours have been one of debunking rumours. Almost everyone with a phone has something to say. Ring lights have flashed on faces, and record button clicked.

Let's break this down.

I would first start by saying - I hate that Mirabel's story is untrue as acclaimed from investigation by legitimate authority. Not because I wanted it to be another man accused. But because of the harm her story has caused.

It has put a dirty tag on a particular gender. Everyone within that sex has been robbed off as evil in the past few days.

She has also created fear and might along the line discredit other rape cases that would come up often. Because the unspoken ripple effect of false accusations is that it silence real victims. She has also extorted money form genuine sympathizers.

But I never regret any action I took before the authenticity of her story. Neither do I discredit people who spoke out for her.

Such a dramatic girl! Although In every lie, there's an atom of truth.

Her story being false doesn't stop me from advocating for the next victim that speaks up. In fact I get to be louder for the next.

In a society where women are being raped everyday {of course women don't rape women. If you know of any, please tell me in the comments} by men on a daily basis. Harassed, GVB(gender based violence), abused in all forms etc. The anger of feminist are valid. The reactions of women towards another being hurt or in discomfort is valid.

It is not right to feel satisfied that Mirabel's story was false. Because whether or not it is, these heinous crimes still happen on a daily basis. And yes, she should face the law with serious deterrence.

Well it depends on your reason for satisfaction.

I have always been the one to say Men are not good people. I have an amazing father, I have male friends. Every single day I interact with a male. But that ideology that men aren't good people sits within me. Not all men though.

Now see this :

1- There is a lady who got raped and strangled to death in her apartment by her neighbor. She got buried yesterday. But her killer-he still remains free because the case has been postponed in court.

2- Ochanya died at 13 after being raped since she was 8 years by father and son. She died from complications from Vesicovirginal Fistula.

3- Fems and her friend got raped by a supposed employer and their rapist is reprimanded in jail.

4- A video of a man went viral while he was attempting to assault an 8 year old girl. Until a woman caught him and started beating him. The men in that video were asking of him to be left alone.

5: Younno the popular journalist that was Assassinated at Katampe axis in Abuja. The CCTV showed armed men shotting her to death.

How many more? Oh please!

Don't cancel me - hear me out.

Every time a person asks me why I say men, and not bad men, I just say, because it is not in my position to differentiate bad men from good men. And that's because I believe most men are unpredictable creatures, mysterious, and not to be vouched for.

A good man could turn up to be anything anytime. Yeahhhh same as a woman lol.

Deep within me, I know there are good men and bad men. The men in my life are obviously good men- I would have flushed them out a long time ago if otherwise.

Today after having a conversation with my elder sister about the recent trend. She said what if we stop attributing all of these to gender wars and pick out the offenders in the society irrespective of gender?.

Which I totally agree with.

But on the other hand, like I'd always say, check the statistics. Who commits the most crime in society? Men. Armed robbery, rape, murder, bad governance, male politicians doing the most, etc. It is really hard to not place aggression on one gender. I know women commit crimes also but please cut me some slack- Men do the most crimes in the society.

A lot of men wanted Mirabel's story to be false even before it was declared. The energy they put into digging out if her story was true or false - if it was channelled into Ochanya's rapist that was confirmed with glaring evidence, maybe we would have justified whatever it is they are pulling now and have a better society.

I would never stop calling out rapist and pedophiles!

But hey!

I have come to a conclusion that if we keep going back and forth on gender war- we'll result at nowhere. The only substitute for a better society is punishing offenders outrightly irrespective of gender.

Changing society could start from me and you. Deciding to be good men and women out there. Owning up to our misconduct, abstaining from prohibited actions and choosing to be better humans for the society. Saying the truth irrespective of sex. And living in peace.

As men, creating a safe and healthy environment and becoming safe spaces for women. If you are a good man already please keep being a good.

It could begin from reading this piece.

We can't gather all men and women together all over the world, but we can cause a change within me and you.

Let's spread being responsible humans as a trait. It's the gospel.

I really wish the world could be a better place.

I'm so damn tired. I am drained of all these constant pull ups.

Just so you know, this was my exact reaction when the truth of Mirabel's story started unfolding. Like girll how did you pull that?. Damn!.

The Top Monthly Contributors ranking is a monthly metric indicating how users respond to your posts, not just how many you publish.

1
How strong your best post is —
Your highest-scoring post this month carries the most weight. One great post can take you far.
2
How consistent the engagement you receive is —
We also look at the average score of all your posts. If your work keeps getting good reactions, you get a boost.
3
How consistent the engagement you receive is —
Posting more helps — but only a little.
Extra posts give a small bonus that grows slowly, so quality always matters more than quantity.
In simple terms:
A great post beats many ignored posts
Consistently engaging posts beat one lucky hit
Spamming low-engagement posts won't help
Tips, comments, and upvotes from others matter most
This ranking is designed to reward
Thoughtful, high-quality posts
Real engagement from the community
Consistency over time — without punishing you for posting again
The Top Monthly Contributors leaderboard reflects what truly resonates, not just who posts the most.
