Maybe it was always there
<p>Maybe the good things were never far.</p><p>Maybe they sat quietly in the corners of my life,</p><p>waiting for me to look their way </p><p>the way sunrise waits on the other side of a curtain</p><p>that no one bothers to open.</p><p><br/></p><p>For a long time, I thought life had grown cruel —</p><p>that joy had packed its bags</p><p>and left me with echoes of what used to be soft.</p><p>But maybe it wasn’t the world that changed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe it was me </p><p>my eyes clouded by exhaustion,</p><p>my heart too busy grieving what wasn’t</p><p>to notice what still was.</p><p><br/></p><p>There were still mornings that didn’t hurt,</p><p>still laughter spilling out of someone’s lips</p><p>like mercy.</p><p>There were hands that reached for me in small ways </p><p>not to fix me,</p><p>but to remind me I wasn’t fading.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe the good things don’t shout.</p><p>Maybe they whisper </p><p>and I had forgotten how to listen.</p><p><br/></p><p>I’ve learned that goodness hides in quiet disguises:</p><p>in the taste of tea gone warm,</p><p>in a message I didn’t expect,</p><p>in the kind of silence that doesn’t demand an explanation.</p><p>In my own breath </p><p>steady, even when everything else isn’t.</p><p><br/></p><p>And maybe, just maybe,</p><p>the amount of light in my life</p><p>was never determined by what the world gave me,</p><p>but by what I allowed myself to see.</p><p><br/></p><p>So now I’m learning to notice.</p><p>To call small things beautiful</p><p>without waiting for them to become grand.</p><p>To trace warmth wherever it hides </p><p>in people, in moments,</p><p>in the space between heartbreak and healing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe goodness was never gone.</p><p>Maybe it was always here </p><p>just waiting for me to look up.</p>
