How often do we say the prayer: 'let thy will be done'? When you think deeply about the meaning of those words, you would realize that it is one of the most difficult prayers to make.
Asking for God's will to be done in your life, is you asking for an answer that may not be what you hope for. When we ask for His will to be done in our lives, it means that we are willing to accept whatever results that come with it. Or go through the difficult process He sets us on, towards achieving what we want. This however is easier said than done. Because for whatever request we make to God, we already have an answer which we desire within us. But that answer which we desire, may be contrary to His will.
A while back, I misunderstood that prayer. I thought 'let your will be done' was same as 'let my will be done'. And then I felt like my prayers were unanswered when the outcome wasn't what I intended for. When I got to understand what it meant, I was too scared to ask for His will. Even at this point in my life, I still hesitate to say that prayer.
I am still learning that it is a prayer that is made with trust, and the courage to accept whatever comes from it. It is a prayer of immense sacrifice - you are willing to sacrifice your desires for God's will.
I believe it was the most sacrificial prayer Jesus made. At the time when he asked that the responsibility of dying for our sins, be passed away from him. He summoned the resolve to then say 'let your will be done'.
For some, it may seem unfair that our heart desires, are not in line with what God wants for us. Because if He loves us, shouldn't He do what would make us happy? But we have to understand that He alone knows the outcome of every situation. With that understanding, comes the courage to trust His will.
Let your will be done
