Instead of replying with ''I KNOW..''' try ''THAT'S RIGHT''

When it comes to how we communicate, we so often default to habitual ways of replying, without being aware of the impact it has on others.

Something many of us use when replying to someone who tells us something we already know is, ''I KNOW..''

But replying with ''I KNOW'' ( even though it could be entirely true) can do more harm than good.

I hear it not only in professional environments, but often in personal relationships - with friends, family , husbands, wives......

''I KNOW'' can block the free flow of ideas.

It can restrict open communication.

It can reflect that you're not open to the perspectives of others.

It can (sometimes) be taken to reflect a degree of incompetence (you 'knew' but you did not 'do') And, it can even invalidate someone else, especially when they 're excited to share whatever they're sharing. How did it feel in the moment?
