If you know about the movie 'The wizard of Oz', you should be familiar with the yellow brick road. To shed a little light, it is the road which the protagonist Dorothy was told to follow, in order to find her way home. And during the course of the movie, we see her and her friends being led by the yellow brick road.
As an ardent fan of literature, I like to draw metaphorical meanings from movies or tv shows. So in essence, this post is about the metaphorical meaning of the yellow brick road, and its relevance in the real world. What is the yellow brick road?
Simply put, I consider the yellow brick road, to be the path which every man takes, inorder to achieve his hopes and dreams. Or the path we take with the faith that it leads to a desired end. This road, could be in form of a career choice, personal life choices or even a religious devotion. As far as its aim, is to lead to a desired end. I like to believe everyone on earth, has a path they ought to carve out for themselves. We all have a purpose. And most of what we do, is aimed towards that purpose. The difference is that some realize that purpose sooner than others. Some never actually do. And like Dorothy, sometimes we need some force to help us point out our yellow brick road.
That journey you embark on, inorder to realize your purpose is your yellow brick road. If you desire to be a world renowned surgeon, the years of learning, discipline and practice required, is your yellow brick road. The thing though, is that this road isn't always going to be a smooth one. There are obstacles, and challenges to be encountered. We scale through these obstacles with persistence. And a few times we get help along the way.
Everyone has their own road peculiar to them. Even though we often are too focused on ours to realize this. Selfishness may come into play, and we might try to derail others in order to forge ahead. The ideal, is that while we individually embark on our journey, we can also assist others with theirs. A little encouragement shared amongst ourselves, goes a long way.
And for those yet to discover their own yellow brick road, here's me hoping that you are guided to it soon.
