Listen to this Insight

These past two weeks or so have been great. Culminating in what ranks as the best weekend I can remember in a while. In fact when I think about it, these month has been amazing - and to think my birthday comes up in a couple of days.

My screenwriting craft availed me the opportunity to meet seasoned minds in the film industry, as well as other 'dreamers' like me. Speaking of 'dreamers', one thing that resonated with me this weekend is the fact that I have begun a full transition from dreaming to full actualization. Don't get me wrong, it's not like it has just been a dream all these while, but this time, I can sense there's a big shift coming and I'm all for it.

I sat with people I didn't think I'd be sitting with and it wasn't a formal setting. It was an intimate environment where talents were being appreciated, and casual as well as industry related conversations were had. All of these got me thinking that night - well, thinking and reminiscing.

Everyone starts out with an ambition, hoping to bring it to life (at least most people). The weird thing is that when that ambition or dream begins to manifest before our eyes, it has a special effect on us. At that moment, we remember that there are millions of people who don't get that chance, support, or opportunity to live out their dreams. In this moment, you'd probably feel an overwhelming rush of gratitude. I felt that in tons this past weekend - creative art is what I was born to do, and it feels good that all is falling into place.

And after going through the motions of dopamine, reality sets in. It might not look like it, but getting recognition might be the easiest part. Forget the journey to get the recognition - yes, that's a struggle, but it's nothing compared to when you have a foot in and need to bring the second foot along. I mentioned the fact that I had discussions with seasoned minds right? With such discussions, come eye opening insights. And with those insights, come the pressure to constantly operate way above the average. There are people doing awesome things in that industry you dream of breaking into - these people would only have time for exceptional ideas.

It is at this moment your eyes open to the world of opportunities out there. Think of it as getting a small taste of a cake you've always craved. You could either return having temporarily satisfied that craving, or you could realize that there are other probably more delicious cakes out there; and go for everything.

This past weekend brought with it a realization - I am ready to grab the cake in big slices.
