EDUCATION NA SCAM
As a Nigerian, these words are something you have either heard someone say, or probably thought when the trials of the Nigerian educational system made you reassess your life decisions.  We see the statements defended by people, citing examples like "most of the rich or influential did not get to that point with their degrees". Especially in the man-know-man environment we find ourselves.  We fail to realize that from the moment we are born, we are constantly being educated. We learn from our parents, society, and all around us. Humans do this by mimicking, but the role of educational institutions goes beyond the cramming of facts, theories, and jargon. It is a meeting place to shape the mind, to spark the desire to know and be more. It also serves as a place where like minds can connect, exchange ideas, and network. We are taught of our past; so we know the mistakes and triumphs of those before us, we are taught of the present; so we are better armed to survive the realities of our environment, and from those two, we learn to anticipate or shape the future. With institutionalized education, we get a collection of knowledge gathered through time by the brightest minds, that served humanity and strived to make an impact; in their quest to understand society and human interactions, specialists in their field. This builds our minds, on a foundation with which to make logical assessments and grow in the future. This does not dispute that without schools one cannot be knowledgeable in the way society works, or human interactions, but educational institutions arm you with multiple materials gathered over time from various places and cultures, which shorten the length of time wasted from trial and error form of learning.
