Dear diary, I met a boy.
<p>Dear diary, </p><p>He’s giving me more now,</p><p>like the bare flow of a leaking tap. </p><p><br/></p><p>He tells me about his family.</p><p>I remember their names,</p><p>their habits,</p><p>their temperaments.</p><p><br/></p><p>Today, I spoke to the last-born,</p><p>and it felt strange how natural it was,</p><p>how easily I fit into a story</p><p>I’m not sure I can enter.</p><p><br/></p><p>He said he'll tell his father about me, </p><p>Just like that.</p><p>As if this could be something real, outside of us</p><p><br/></p><p>He wants this to be more, I feel it.</p><p>But still—</p><p>he’s not promising me anything.</p><p><br/></p><p>I can feel the arms of time around us.</p><p>My days with him feel numbered.</p><p><br/></p><p>And that scares me.</p><p><br/></p><p>Is the distance between our worlds</p><p>really that wide?</p><p>Will his mother look at me</p><p>and only see my faith</p><p>before she ever sees me?</p><p><br/></p><p>I wonder if I could do it,</p><p>change my faith for him.</p><p>I wouldn’t.</p><p>But could I?</p><p><br/></p><p>Dear diary,</p><p>what is this love asking of me</p><p>patience, or bravery?</p><p><br/></p><p>And between the two,</p><p>is there any one</p><p>I would be able to give?</p>
