<p><br/></p><p>Cybersecurity Cocktails with Njoke Raisa</p><p><br/></p><p>Let's talk online / internet safety tips for children and young people in this digital age.</p><p><br/></p><p>Before we drench ourselves in this pool of knowledge, i would love to highlight the alarmingly high statistics from a barrage of cybercrimes plaguing our world.</p><p><br/></p><p>- More than half (59% ) of minors reported they've had a potentially harmful online experience and more than 1 in 3 minors reported they have had an online sexual interaction. This report was published in August 2024 by Thorn, Deepfake Nudes .......... </p><p> </p><p>Your tummy will churn when I reveal that sexual exploitation is the most lucrative crime in the world. Girls make up the majority (78%) of child victims, while the majority (82%) of online predators are male.</p><p><br/></p><p>We'll handle the digital divide some other time.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Tip 1: Teach kids how to navigate the Internet. </p><p>Educate them on privacy settings. Ensuring kids' safety online requires a mix of awareness, communication and practical guidelines. </p><p><br/></p><p>Tip 2: Use parental controls: </p><p>Utilise parental control softwares to block inappropriate content, limit screen time and monitor online activity.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Tip 3: Teach them to protect their personal information such as their names, addresses, phone numbers, house numbers if applicable, and to never share this information online without permission from a parent or legal guardian. </p><p><br/></p><p>Tip 4: Monitor their Internet use by keeping an eye on their online activities and ensure they are not allowed to access inappropriate content or engage with strangers. </p><p><br/></p><p>Tip 5: Amplify cyberbullying awareness by educating kids on the harmful effects of cyberbullying and the importance of reporting any instances.</p><p>Tip 6: Regularly monitor online activities by periodically their devices, social media accounts and messaging apps. This helps you stay aware of their interactions and identify any potential risks.</p><p><br/></p><p>Tip 7: Immediately cut off potentially harmful online communication. </p><p><br/></p><p>I would enumerate more helpful tips every now and then for not just kid's safety but the safety of our world. A child revealing private information to a "seemingly harmless friend" on the Internet may just cement the pitch for crime to thrive....</p>
