Control, the enemy of Ego

"Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional"

In my search for inner peace and serenity, I've come across something so simple that's often overlooked in terms of happiness and well-being.

Now I'm not a shaman or philosophical thinker by any means, I'm no Alan Watts but I have realized that the Ego almost always is the problem.

Man wants to be in control of everything, his situation, his circumstances, his surroundings and his social circle, it's so easy to forget that we're barely in control of anything, not even our minds or the biochemical processes that goes on in our body.

We get so hung up on things that we can't influence or things that have happened, forgetting to just exist and breathe and live.

Sometimes we learn the lesson too late, some never learn at all and it's sad really.

We can't control the actions of others or how they make us feel, but we can control our own actions and responses, how we treat one another, how we spend our time and how we take care of ourselves.

Things happen even with precautions, it could be a painful break up or energy not being reciprocated,

It could be the unexpected rain even though the weather predicted otherwise.

We can't control everything and it's better to accept our limitations, resistance prolongs the pain and makes things seemingly worse than they really are.

"grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference"
