Too comfortable.</p><p><br/></p><p>The kind of comfort that comes from history.</p><p><br/></p><p>He leaned close as she laughed, like he already knew every version of her smile.</p><p><br/></p><p>The lyrics from the jukebox echoed in the café</p><p><strong><br/></strong></p><blockquote><strong>"It's hard for me to say, I'm jealous of the way. <span style="background-color: transparent;">You're happy without me"</span></strong></blockquote><p><br/></p><p>Rylee nudged me from across the table.</p><p><br/></p><p>“That him?” he whispered.</p><p><br/></p><p>“I don’t know,” I muttered.</p><p><br/></p><p>But deep down… I knew.</p><p><br/></p><p>The man looked up and caught me staring.</p><p><br/></p><p>Our eyes locked.</p><p><br/></p><p>For a brief moment, neither of us looked away.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she turned and saw me.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her smile faded slightly.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not guilt.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not surprise.</p><p><br/></p><p>Something else.</p><p><br/></p><p>Something complicated.</p><p><br/></p><p>She stood and walked toward me.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Hey,” she said softly.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Hey.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I nodded toward the man.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Friend?”</p><p><br/></p><p>She hesitated.</p><p><br/></p><p>That hesitation told me everything.</p><p><br/></p><p>Before she could answer, the man stood and joined us.</p><p><br/></p><p>He stretched out his hand confidently.</p><p><br/></p><p>“BigDan, right?”</p><p><br/></p><p>I froze.</p><p><br/></p><p>He knew my name.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Yes.”</p><p><br/></p><p>He smiled politely.</p><p><br/></p><p>“I’ve heard about you.”</p><p><br/></p><p>That sentence hit harder than it should have.</p><p><br/></p><p>He turned slightly toward her.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Should I give you two a minute?”</p><p><br/></p><p>She shook her head quickly.</p><p><br/></p><p>“No… it’s fine.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Fine.</p><p><br/></p><p>Funny word.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because nothing about the moment felt fine.</p><p><br/></p><p>The man slipped his hands into his pockets and studied me for a second.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then he said something that made my stomach tighten.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You look exactly like the kind of man she would fall for.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I forced a smile.</p><p><br/></p><p>“And you sound exactly like the kind of man who already did.”</p><p><br/></p><p>The jukebox continued... </p><p><br/></p><blockquote><strong>"But I always thought you'd come back, tell me all you found was, Heartbreak and misery"</strong></blockquote><p><br/></p><p>For the first time, the air between us shifted.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not conversation anymore.</p><p><br/></p><p>Competition.</p><p><br/></p><p>Behind us, Rylee whispered to Dolapo.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Oh boy… this story just upgraded.”</p><p><br/></p><p>---</p><p><br/></p><h3>Next On…</h3><p><br/></p><p>Tomorrow night, the truth about her past will finally come out.</p><p><br/></p><p>But the bigger problem isn’t the man she used to love.</p><p><br/></p><p>It’s the choice she’s about to make.</p><p><br/></p><p>And when she finally speaks…</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone at that table is going to walk away.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
