A Departure From Godliness

This is the reason why many believers struggle with the sound teaching of God's Word that is based on faith in Christ Jesus.

It is wrongly believed that a commitment to human traditions and dead works will have any form of relevant impact to our salvation which comes by faith in Christ Jesus, thinking that by adopting human philosophy and worldly religious ideology you will perhaps be able to stand before God as one who has pleased Him in any way is arrant folly.

First, it's important to note that the Bible teaches very clearly, a distinction between the Old testament and the New testament, some times referring to the Old testament as Old wives fables and doctrines that cause dispute rather than godly edification.

1 Timothy 1:4 - 11

[4]Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

[5]Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

[6]From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

[7]Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

[8]But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

[9]Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

[10]For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

[11]According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

1 Timothy 4:7

[7]But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

2 Timothy 2:14

[14]Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

2 Timothy 2:16

[16]But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

The Bible is clear on why and how the concept of the Old Testament is dangerous for the believer in Christ today..

Titus 1:10-11,14

[10]For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

[11]Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

[14]Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

Titus 3:9

[9]But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

"Teaching things they ought not"

"Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth".

This is the reason why many believers struggle with the sound teaching of God's Word and have a hard time understanding Christ Jesus, they pay attention to teachings that are in contrast with the message of redemption and nature of the New Creation.

The Bible teaches very clearly in 1 Tim 1:9 that the law is not for a righteous man but for sinners..

Yet, in many places the Bible refers to the believer in Christ Jesus as a righteous man through the atoning sacrifice of Christ and His concomitant resurrection. For example..

2 Corinthians 5:21

[21]For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

This simply means that for every step taken towards obedience to the law you have taken an equal step away from the grace of God in Christ Jesus. As Paul said

Galatians 5:4

[4]Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Galatians 2:21

[21]I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

My friend, you will never live a godly life in Christ Jesus through the teaching of the law or by a lifestyle structured based on Old testament ideology.

To stand with the law is to stand away from Christ Jesus.

To stand with the law is to deny the efficacy of the work of Christ in making you the new creature.

Yet, you are a New Creation if indeed you believe in Christ through His Death for the nature of Sin, Burial and concomitant Resurrection.

Your Bishop.
